The Practitioners’ Program on the Use of Research Evidence, PPURE, builds the skills of technical officers, administrators, legislators, and policy actors to apply research evidence in child-focused policy and programming across Uganda and Africa. The program focuses on practical competencies that strengthen decision-making and improve outcomes for children.
Before rolling out the training, we conducted a training needs assessment. The findings shaped a targeted curriculum that responds to real gaps in how evidence is accessed, interpreted, and applied. Using this curriculum, we trained civil society leaders and government officials on how to find relevant research, assess its quality, and translate it into policy and program action.
Participants report clear shifts in how they approach their work. One participant shared that the training changed their mindset about evidence use. They plan to integrate more research into their daily practice, review existing literature more intentionally, and reassess the interventions and approaches currently guiding their programs.
Another participant expressed appreciation for the practical knowledge and new research skills gained through the training and indicated interest in joining future research programs organised by AfriChild. PPURE is strengthening the bridge between research and policy so that decisions affecting children are grounded in credible evidence and context.
